Old is New, but Mostly New: Great bones get an upgrade
It was a perfect house for the new homeowners, though it came with a significant asterisk. The transitional style oozed character and charm, but the house didn’t reflect the new owners’ modern taste. We began by expanding the principal suite, designing a small third floor rear addition to increase available ceiling height. It captured treetop views of the backyard and made space for a new dressing room with custom cabinetry. The new principal ensuite bathroom was built with an oversized shower and freestanding tub against a backdrop of serene natural stone. The ground floor was designed with a statement material palette featuring a contrasting black and white kitchen and breakfast room to fit the owners’ style. Colour and character were infused into the space with art, textiles, and the company of the friendly family dog. With a collection of design tweaks, it became a perfect home for the new owners. With no asterisks.
